I. The Absolute Inviolability of Eritrean Sovereignty
The sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the State of Eritrea are non-negotiable, inviolable, and sacrosanct. Under no circumstances, preconditions, or threats of force will Eritrea compromise or negotiate upon its sovereign domain.
There is no legitimate or “good faith dispute” between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
“Normalizing” flagrant acts by Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party to covet and violate Eritrea’s’ sovereign boundary because it considers another nation’s coast “strategically necessary” places every single border in Africa at permanent risk. By protecting its borders, Eritrea is defending the exact same principle upon which the security and survival of every African nation ultimately depend.
II. Origins of the Crisis and the Imperative of Accountability
The escalating instability and atmosphere of crisis across the Horn of Africa is solely the product of a deliberate, unprovoked, and multi-year campaign of geopolitical aggression executed by Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party. This ongoing campaign of military posturing, diplomatic hostility, and economic intimidation has been systematically planned, funded, and executed by the ruling apparatus in Ethiopia.
Generic calls by the international community for “all parties or” “both sides” to exercise restraint and “de-escalate” are legally flawed and diplomatically counterproductive; by constructing a false equivalence between the perpetrator of regional aggression and the state defending its lawful sovereignty, such statements obscure state responsibility and emboldens further recklessness. Meaningful de-escalation can only occur when the primary instigator of the crisis terminates its hostile policies.
Accusations of Eritrean invasion is entirely fabricated. The baseless claim constitutes a coordinated information warfare campaign engineered to deflect accountability, deceive the international community, and justify unprovoked revisionist ambitions.
III. Strategic Restraint, Defensive Posture, and Sovereign Defense
The Eritrean Defense Forces (EDF) remains stationed entirely within the internationally recognized borders of the State of Eritrea. EDF’s posture is explicitly defensive, strictly aligned with established international boundaries, and fully compliant with international law.
There are repeated and misleading allusions of Eritrean continued presence in sovereign Ethiopian territories even after the Pretoria Agreement. These false allegations refer to sovereign Eritrea territories that were endorsed by the EEBC Arbitral Award of 13 April 2002.
Eritrea harbors zero irredentist claims and asserts no entitlement over any sovereign territory of Ethiopia.
Despite continuous provocations and targeted campaigns of subversion, the State of Eritrea has consistently exercised high strategic patience. This principled restraint serves as the primary stabilizing anchor keeping the Horn of Africa from descending into an unchecked, catastrophic regional war.
While firmly committed to peace, Eritrea remains fully prepared and legally entitled under international law to defend its sovereignty against any acts of aggression or threats of invasion.
IV. The Framework for Enduring Regional Peace and Legal Order
The Government of the State of Eritrea has no appetite to engage in an acrimonious agenda of manufactured conflict, regional turmoil, and destructive zero-sum geopolitical maneuvers.
Eritrea remains deeply committed to long-term regional stability and the responsible, lawful management of inter-state relations. Eritrea’s vision for the Horn of Africa is anchored in mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and strict adherence to international norms.
Sustainable peace and genuine security in the Horn of Africa is predicated on, and only when the international community insists upon, absolute compliance with international law. Expansionist doctrines, unilateral demands to forcefully incorporate foreign sovereign territory, and revisionist border claims must be permanently repudiated in favor of absolute respect for the sovereign equality of all states.
