Labor Department Resolves Labor Disputes

The Labor Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare reported that over the past five years, out of the 2,590 labor disputes submitted to the department, 88% have been resolved through reconciliation.
Mr. Woldeyesus Elisa, Director General of Social Welfare, said that ensuring the practical implementation of labor law; studying national manpower demand; addressing the needs of job seekers and employers; following up and inspecting the development of workers and employers; as well as ensuring workers’ safety and health are among the main objectives of the department.
Mr. Woldeyesus went on to say that, in accordance with Eritrea’s labor law that guarantees the rights and organization of workers, a discussion forum has been created for workers and employers to address social, economic, and cultural issues.
He further noted that over the past five years, inspection processes have been conducted on 2,163 institutions and corrective measures have been taken. According to Mr. Woldeyesus, Eritrea became a member of the International Labor Organization in 1993 and has ratified eight international labor accords.
