President Isaias Afwerki Holds Talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo
President Isaias Afwerki held extensive discussions today with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo on bilateral relations, regional developments, and issues of mutual interest.
The talks focused on strengthening cooperation between Eritrea and Egypt in various sectors, including trade, investment, transport, and economic development. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further consolidating the longstanding relations between the two countries and advancing cooperation in line with the aspirations of their peoples.
The discussions also reviewed current developments in the Horn of Africa and the wider region. President Afwerki and President El-Sisi exchanged views on regional peace, stability, and development, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among countries of the region in addressing common challenges and promoting sustainable progress.
Regarding the situation in Sudan, the two leaders underscored the need for efforts aimed at restoring peace, stability, and national unity. They reiterated support for solutions that respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states.
The leaders further discussed security in the Red Sea and freedom of maritime navigation. They emphasized that the security and governance of the Red Sea should remain the responsibility of the countries bordering the waterway and stressed the importance of enhanced coordination among littoral states to safeguard regional peace and stability.
President Afwerki commended Egypt’s constructive role in promoting regional cooperation and development, while both sides agreed to continue close consultations on issues affecting the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
The visit reflects the growing cooperation between Eritrea and Egypt and their shared commitment to regional stability, mutual development, and respect for national sovereignty.
