Eritrean investment Conference Concludes
The Eritrean Investment Conference which was conducted under the theme “Popular Development by the People for the People” and in which broad participation of nationals from inside the country and abroad was witnessed concluded yesterday 28th of August 2012.In an opening speech he delivered at the conference held under the theme “Popular Development by the People for the People,” on the 27th of August 2012, at Asmara Palace Hotel, President Isaias Afwerki pointed out that the accomplishments registered over the past 20 years in laying the groundwork in various domains are modest. In this connection, he noted the need for adjustments pertaining to the roadmap for all- round national development, and as such this issue is the focal point for the conference.President Isaias gave extensive briefings regarding the environment for development investment, broad participation in investment, sectors and businesses in which nationals could invest, the importance of saving in development and investment, among others. He said that the conference would adopt a document on the basis of the papers presented and the views exchanged by the participants. Dr. Woldai Fitur, head of Eritrean Investment Center, indicated that Eritrean investors residing in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Australia, the Americas and 22 African countries are attending the conference, thus attesting to the nationals’ readiness to participate in development and investment objectives. He further explained that the Government would present a document highlighting the key investment sectors. The opening session was attended by Ministers, senior PFDJ officials, regional Administrators, economy experts and Eritrean investors from inside the country and abroad. During the closing remark, Dr. Woldai Fitur, pointed out that the views exchanged during the conference are a prerequisite for the Second National Investment Conference due to be conducted by the end of the current year, and that the Government would step up endeavors to enhance favorable environment for investment.Reports indicated that a number of papers pertaining to the agriculture, tourism, trade, infrastructure and other sectors were presented in the conference, on the basis of which the participants conducted extensive discussion and exchanged views as regards the buying of shares and the like. Stating that the conference is timely vis-à-vis their expectations, the participants lauded the Government’s commitment to foster investment initiatives targeting opportunities in the country. Mr. Ahmed Abdu from Anseba region and Mr. Tesfamariam Teklai from the Southern region pointed out that they would make use of the opportunity. Ms. Asgede Gebregziabher and Mr. Amanuel Amha from Zambia and the USA respectively voiced satisfaction with having taken part in the conference, and said that they would avail themselves of investment opportunity in the Homeland.
